What we do

Tree care from the roots up

Portland's firs, maples and cedars are part of what makes this city home. We keep them healthy, and remove them safely when we have to.

Tree removal

Hazardous and unwanted trees taken down in sections with ropes and rigging, even in tight back yards.

Typical range$900 to $6,500

Pruning & crown thinning

Structural pruning to ANSI A300 standards that lets light in and reduces wind load. Never topping.

Typical range$450 to $2,400

Storm & emergency work

Trees on roofs, cars or fences after ice storms and windstorms. 24/7 response with insurance documentation.

Typical rangeCall for rate

Tree health & risk reports

Certified arborist reports for permits, real estate and insurance, plus disease and pest treatment.

Typical range$175 to $450

Stump grinding

Stumps ground 8 to 12 inches below grade so you can replant or lay sod.

Typical range$175 to $650

Crane-assisted removals

For huge trees over homes, a crane lifts sections out without anything touching your roof.

Typical range$4,500 to $14,000

We'd rather save the tree

A lot of tree companies remove first and ask later. Our arborists look for ways to keep healthy trees standing, and tell you honestly when one has to go.

Crew feeding branches into a wood chipper on a residential street

Certified, not just climbers

Every crew is led by an ISA Certified Arborist who knows tree biology, not just chainsaws.

Fully insured, for real

$2M liability and workers' comp. We send the certificate before we start.

Permits handled

We file City of Portland and county permits, including the arborist report.

Spotless cleanup

Chips hauled or left for your garden, lawn raked and gutters cleared of debris.

Your property is protected and cleaned up before we leave. If we damage anything, we fix it. Period.

Owen Larsen, Founder & ISA Certified Arborist
Owen LarsenSince 2004

Two decades in Portland's canopy

I climbed my first fir at nineteen and earned my ISA certification a few years later. I started Tall Pine in 2004 with a pickup, a chipper and a lot of rope.

What I love about this work is the trees we get to keep. A good pruning can add decades to a big leaf maple, and that's worth more than any removal.

Every estimate is done by a certified arborist. If you want a second opinion on another company's quote, I'm happy to give one.

“Two companies told us our 90-foot fir had to come down. Owen's team pruned and cabled it instead. It made it through the ice storm and still shades the whole yard.”

Questions we hear most

Not sure what your tree needs? Call and talk to an arborist.

(503) 555-0148
How much does tree removal cost in Portland?

Small to medium removals usually run $900 to $2,800. Large firs and maples near homes typically run $3,000 to $6,500, and crane removals $4,500 to $14,000. Your proposal is one fixed price including cleanup.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Portland?

Often, yes. Trees 12 inches or wider in diameter usually need a City of Portland permit. We file the application and arborist report for you.

Can you save my tree instead of removing it?

Many times. Pruning, cabling and treatment can keep a tree healthy and safe for years. We'll tell you honestly when removal is the right call.

What happens in a storm emergency?

Call our 24/7 storm line. We prioritize trees on homes, cars and power lines, tarp damage and document everything for your insurance.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We hold Oregon CCB license #228104, carry $2M liability plus workers' comp, and every crew lead is an ISA Certified Arborist.

Do you offer financing?

Projects over $2,500 qualify for 12 months at 0% APR. Pre-qualifying takes about a minute and won't affect your credit.

Will you clean everything up?

Yes. We haul brush and wood, rake the lawn and clear gutters. You can also keep wood or chips for your garden.
